Digital Marketing Internship

Digital Marketing Intern

I took part in the first Digital Marketing Virtual Internship Programme created by Girls In Marketing, hosted in partnership with Adobe Express and monday.com. The intense programme enabled me to upgrade my skill set and build further valuable experience in digital marketing by completing tasks, absorbing knowledge and learning from industry experts in online talks & interactive sessions. I also connected with very talented and inspiring marketers from across the globe, expanding my network.

Day one covered Digital Marketing Strategy & Email Marketing with monday.com, day two focused on Marketing Careers, Employability & Professional Development with Girls in Marketing and the final day covered Social Media Strategy, Branding & Content Creation with Adobe Express.

After graduating I completed an internship with 304 Clothing, working closely alongside the team and carrying out a wide variety of creative digital marketing tasks. The 304 mission is to create affordable, quality streetwear that drives people to embark on their own adventure wearing individually-customised clothes that are designed and crafted in the Birmingham HQ.

Responsibilities and duties included:

• Created a wholesale B2C email campaign for the 10th birthday collection launch; writing copy, selecting imagery and layout. Monitored and tracked the CTR, Open Rate and Deliverability of the email campaign.
• Edited the 10th birthday collection product descriptions.
• Drafted, edited and published engaging SEO optimised blog content using the TOV and language of 304, adhering to the brand guidelines, editing imagery, content and proofing.
• Researched social trends, suggesting reactive, organic and paid social media content that could be implemented across 304's social channels.
• Planned, created and scheduled social media content for 304's Twitter.
• Assisted with 304’s influencer marketing strategy by identifying and liaising with influencers for gifted Instagram collaboration posts and TikTok unboxing content.
• Conducted and reported on key competitor research and high performing social content analysis.
• Assisted on the 10th Birthday collection photoshoot, taking BTS photography and organising the final shoot imagery.
• Uploaded the new collection onto the Shopify site and the two wholesale websites.

January 2021 - June 2022

Writer & Designer - Ohana Magazine

Ohana was founded in January 2021 by Emily Orr and was created in collaboration with 18 talented BCU creatives on a volunteer WFH basis in the COVID-19 lockdown, with the intention of raising awareness surrounding the nine protected characteristics.

 

Since the launch, we are proud to have accomplished 2000+ reads across two issues and the magazine was shortlisted for the Terry Mansfield Publication Award at Graduate Fashion Week 2021. This project also enabled the team & I to gain industry experience after internships were cancelled due to COVID-19.

Responsibilities and duties included:

  • • Research and idea generation ahead of meetings.

  • • Staying informed with the news and issues that need to be addressed.

  • • Writing relevant, timely and well-researched articles, suitable for our audience and mission statement.

  • • Audio recorded articles.

  • • Responded to group feedback from meetings by editing and revising work.

  • • Created graphics and building spreads for the magazine, utilising the brand guidelines and working with both illustrators and writers to bring their article to life according to their specifications.

  • • Attended weekly meetings within both teams, actively participating in discussions, pitching articles and providing constructive feedback to team members.

  • • Contributed graphics, content and copy for Instagram posts.

February 2021 - June 2022

Content Assistant - Birmingham City University

My role as a Content Assistant at BCU was to support the ADM Marketing Officers and wider team by creating engaging written content that aimed to improve student recruitment for priority courses and encourage the conversion of enquirers and applicants into enrolled students.

Responsibilities and duties included:

 

  • • Drafted, edited and published engaging written content for The School of Fashion and Textiles, The School of Jewellery and The School of Architecture and Design blog sites, on various social media platforms and in applicant email communications. 

  • • Conducted interviews with students, staff and alumni to create content that improved student recruitment.
    • Wrote case studies and news pieces utilising press releases and by carrying out detailed research.
    • Ensured the correct tone of voice and consistently used brand guidelines.
    • Utilised a Content Management System to upload content, structure and edit existing web pages.
    • 
    Conducted competitor analysis and in-depth research to generate new ideas for exciting and relevant content.

  • • Sourced royalty free imagery and student imagery to suit the article, and edited it to the web specifications.

  • • In July 2021, I was recruited to edit over 200 profiles for the BCU Inspired online graduate showcase. This involved utilising Wordpress, editing copy, proofreading, editing and resizing imagery in Photoshop and liaising with graduates for additional copy or imagery.

September 2020 - June 2022

Student Ambassador - Birmingham City University

  • Providing chat assistance and solutions on the online webinars of virtual open days.

  • Being an online panel member of subject specialties, and confidently answering student related queries.

  • Telemarketing Fashion Branding & Communication Ambassador for 21/22 offer holders. Offered course and university advice, module information, campus knowledge and promoted open events. This developed my time management skills, communication, liasing, active listening and the ability to calmly and professionally resolve situations under time pressure.

  • Working remotely from home over the pandemic.

  • Additionally, I worked as a COVID-19 campus support member in 2021 for 2 months when on-campus teaching returned. This role required me to provide advice and directions to staff and students, offer COVID guidance and hand out COVID packs to every student.

October 2019 - January 2021

Brand Representative - Hollister Co.

My role as a Brand Representative for Hollister Co. in the busy Birmingham Bullring store required providing an outstanding level of customer service in a friendly and approachable manner. I confidently assisted customers, provided knowledgeable product information, styling advice alongside current offers and promotions information to drive sales. I left this position due to the store's closure.

Responsibilities and duties included:

  • • Maintained a clean and organised shop floor of seasonally rotated, curated clothing displays.

  • • Provided an exemplary level of customer service to every individual.

  • • Supported management and co-workers by working as one team and applying the rule of the customer always comes first.

  • • Confidently resolved customer complaints empathetically and professionally.

  • • Placed orders online for customers & answered telephone queries.

  • • Kept a wide range of stock and sizing available at all times.

  • • Happily took customers through the process of finding a successful outfit by providing style advice on the shopfloor and fitting rooms.

  • • Furthered my commercial awareness of a global successful fashion brand.

September 2020 - November 2020

Lounge Underwear - Live University Brief

For our first module in second year at University, we were presented with a live brief in collaboration with Lounge Underwear to create a campaign concept and response to International Women's day 2021 in groups of 5. The focus - uplifting and empowering their #FemaleFamily with a multi-platform approach. We pitched our concept #WindDownWithLounge, which was professional and reflected the Lounge House style.


I thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with Lounge and my team, and I expanded upon my skills within content creation and social media, alongside conducting an extensive research document.


As the Content Editor, responsibilities and duties included:


• Created visually engaging and empowering written content for the format of various social media channels, blog posts and an editorial feature for a multi-platform reach across appropriate digital and printed channels.

• Took accountability for planning and managing own work efficiently to ensure the team objectives are met.
• Collaborated with team members to build our concept by sharing work, research findings, ideas, knowledge and resources.

• Asked and acted on regular feedback to build our concept.
• Formed an innovative Content Strategy report that detailed how all aspects of content created by the team would unite for an innovative and engaging International Women's day campaign, and how it would extend the brand's following and reach.

• Responsible for planning the schedule and took minutes in team meetings/tutorials to help keep track of ideas, responsibilities & actions.

• Contributed to and presented an initial pitch and a final pitch presentation with the team.

• Overcame challenges faced due to COVID, such as being unable to meet in person, conduct photoshoots and moving to online learning because of tightening lockdown restrictions.
• I was selected to interview Georgia Perry (Chief People Officer at Lounge) to write an engaging blog post to detail the successes of the project, on the BCU School of F&T site.

September 2017 - August 2019

Womenswear Customer Assistant - Marks & Spencer

As a Customer Assistant working within Womenswear in a busy M40 based store, I provided customers a tailored in-store experience, by proactively gathering insights on the reason for their visit through bespoke conversation and understanding the customers needs. Additionally, I thoroughly expanded my commercial awareness through daily insight to how a market leading global retailer operates. At M&S, I developed my customer first mindset in the constantly evolving retail landscape.

  • Formed comprehensive knowledge of customer shopping channels, becoming a product expert of the products on the shopfloor and online, ensuring accuracy and exceeding customer’s expectations.

  • Built excellent interpersonal skills through engaging with people of various ages and demographics daily.

  • Assisted the Visual Merchandising team during busy periods. This included mannequin styling and shop floor decor design which required trend knowledge alongside utilising pack guidelines for the season or collection. Aided in selecting outfits to be displayed aesthetically on the shopfloor mannequins for customer inspiration, pushing my creativity and attention to detail.

  • Customers regularly asked for style advice, and I was able to express my creative flair through giving personal styling services according to the customers specifications.

  • Created online orders for customers and confidently answered telephone queries.

  • Confidently taught and trained others to use technology in store with my strong technical knowledge.

  • Effective and swift problem solving.

  • Handled all types of payments, issuing refunds and exchanges.

  • Actively stayed informed on in-store offers to promote and drive sales, to meet set targets.

  • Understood the store priorities and their part to play.

  • Efficiently restocked the shop floor and put out deliveries of stock within set timescales.

  • Worked flexibly across departments when required in the Foodhall, Mens, Kids & Home.

June 2018 - July 2018

Content Creator Intern - Outfit

At college, I worked with Banbury Gateway in collaboration with Outfit to write a promotional blog post about styling A/W18 trends seen in Topshop utilising a micro influencer style blog post. The post was published online on the Banbury Gateway Blog.

Responsibilities and duties included, but not limited to:

• Collaborated with a student photographer to shoot and edit the images.
• Provided a thoughtful promotional analysis of Topshop’s Winter trends, by targeting the consumer and conducting extensive research into popular A/W18 trends.
• Formed an articulated and compelling body of writing to engage the consumer, promote the store and drive in-store footfall to Outfit.
• Styled various pieces of street style clothing to create two full outfits for the paid post, whilst keeping to a tight budget.

June 2016

Studio Assistant Intern

Working as a Studio Assistant within a bespoke leather handbag business within Oxfordshire. During the placement, I gained a valuable insight into the daily behind the scenes of running an independent business.

Responsibilities and duties included:

• Undertook research into A/W16 trends for upcoming print designs and colour schemes.
• Made relevant trend boards to aid visualisation for the upcoming fashion show.
• Worked as a team with two other placement students.
• Kept the studio and showroom clean and tidy.
• Responsible for daily admin duties such as sending packages.
• Assisted in screen printing the test prints for the A/W16 collection.
• Designed, printed and sewed a bag sample from our own trend research for inspiration.

I was after invited to the J’DCRUZ Winter Showcase Fashion show to assist in styling the models and work behind the scenes. I thrive in a fast paced fashion environment; I gained valuable experience in time management and effective communication between outfit changes, as we worked as a team behind the scenes to produce beautifully assembled looks.
